Queer Blackathon TBR

Good morning everyone. I’m going to be talking about the books I hope to read during the 48-hour Queer Blackathon. It was so hard to choose what books I wanted to read during this readathon, but I think I decided!

Let me know in the comments below what books you’re planning on reading!

Also, don’t forget to check out this link to continue supporting the BLM movement.

Let’s get right into this.

This readathon is hosted by Jesse from Bowties & Books as well as Myonna from MyonnaReads, Francina from Francina Simone, and Lauryn from The Novel Lush. I will have any videos related to this below!

So those are two videos I could find so far. I don’t think the other two hosts posted anything yet. But I’m going to share my TBR and I hope you all are going to be joining in as well.

This readathon starts on Juneteenth and you can find more information about that here. It will be going for 48hrs.

So, I have 3 books chosen out for these two days. One ebook, one audiobook, and one physical read. I know that I won’t be finishing all three of these, but I would love to finish at least one or two.

eBook: You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson

You all have probably seen this popping up here a couple of times saying that I’m going to read it! I was really enjoying it, but I ended up putting it down because my loan ran out through my library for the ebook. I plan on finishing the last little bit of this book first thing during this readathon.

This book is about a girl who had her entire life planned out until she finds out that she wasn’t accepted for a scholarship she needed to go to the school of her dreams. Not wanting to give up on her dream school, she decides to run for prom queen where if she won, she’d get the prize of a $10,000 scholarship.

But there’s a new girl at school, who also happens to be running for prom court, that our main character is very quickly becoming more and more interested in. The problem is that she knows that she isn’t going to be able to win prom queen if it gets out that she’s interested in girls.

I was really loving the bit of this story that I read and I am totally rooting for this romance. I want to backhand some characters, but overall I’m really enjoying it. I can’t wait to finish it!

Physical Book: I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver

I started reading this book last year and I just didn’t get through it. So I would definitely like to get through it during this readathon.

This book follows a character who is kicked out of their home when they come out to their parents as non-binary. Finishing off high school at a new school is hard enough, but struggling with anxiety since their parents’ rejection, Ben just wants to stay under the radar. That’s kind of hard, though, when an outgoing classmate decides to become friends with Ben. Feelings start to bloom between these two, things start to become a bit more complicated.

I’m really excited for this book. I honestly completely forgot that it was on my shelves when thinking about my TBR until watching Jesse’s video above where they recommend it. I knew that it was a sign that I needed to read it now.

Audiobook: Black Flamingo by Dean Atta

I was looking through my collection of audiobook apps and totally forgot I got this book on audio look Libro.fm!!! So I’m certainly listening to this one immediately.

I don’t know the details of the plot, but I do know that this is about drag and I’m so here for it. Back when I did winterguard (for like 8 years), my couch was a drag queen (still is I believe and I think his husband is as well) and I remember being too young to actually go to the shows, but I was able to participate in one when I got a bit older. One of the queens wanted two people spinning so they asked me and the only guy on our team to do it since him and I were close (and honestly the best two but that’s a whole different story). It was an interesting experience.

But I’m really excited about this book and I definitely think I can finish it during this readathon.

That’s it everyone! I hope you all enjoyed this post and again, let me know what you plan on reading during this readathon in the comments.

I hope you all have a wonderful day and I’ll see you in the next one. Bye!
