I Finished Some Books! | Weekly Update Jul 27-Aug 2, 2020

Good morning everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far. Mine is going fine. I just can’t seem to keep my days straight. Sunday, I thought it was Monday. Monday, I thought it was Sunday (and worked like it was). I need to find a way to differentiate the days so that I can keep track of them. Maybe looking at a calendar would help. Sigh

That being said, today is not Sunday or Monday. It’s Tuesday now and it’s time for me to check in with how last week went and how I want this week to go. Surprisingly enough, I finally finished some books!

So, let’s get right into how my reading and watching went!

BOoks I Read This Week

So, on the last day of July, I ended up finishing Archenemies by Marissa Meyer. I absolutely ADORED this book. I couldn’t get enough of this world or these characters. I love how morally grey they are. You can’t help but want to support them even though they aren’t the best people.

I can’t get too much into what this one was about or what happened, but I would say (and have said before) that if you enjoy My Hero Academia, you read this series. While they are similar, they are very different in different ways. I will agree with something by brother said, though. You do get more of a look into different abilities in My Hero Academia while Renegades only focuses on a handful. But the abilities are so unique in both series that they can both be enjoyed without feeling like one is a ripoff of the other.

Overall, I gave this book 5 stars. I really enjoyed it.

I got this manga for review from TokyoPop and Netgalley.

This is an ADULT manga that follows a m/m romance between two childhood friends. This gets really graphic when it comes to the sex scenes. While, that isn’t something I enjoy, I don’t tend to let it affect my ratings of other books and I won’t let it affect my rating of this one.

But what did affect my rating was the story itself. The only thing I can really say is that it needed to be longer. Not only did I want it to be, it needed to be. We got their story from being middle schoolers to adulthood, with a skip in time between from high school-ish to after college.

But that’s too much time to cover over one volume. There was so much to get into that this manga just wasn’t able to delve deep into because of its length. If they would have made it a couple volumes longer, I could have felt more for the relationship and would have cared more about what was happening between these two.

That being said, I didn’t hate this book. I did enjoy it and I know that it could have been even more amazing if it would have been longer. I didn’t hate my experience while reading this book.

That’s why I’m giving this manga 3 stars.

Asian Dramas I’ve Watched

So, these dramas are ones that I’ve finished over the last two weeks since I didn’t do my weekly update last week.

Put Your Head on my Shoulder is a Chinese drama following two college students who end up living together. It was a really fun story between these two and pretty much exactly what I look for in roommate romances, which is one of my favorite tropes.

I think that overall this was a really fun romance and I think is a good place to start if you want to get into some Asian dramas. There’s nothing really that goes on that would require much, I guess, thought. And while some things in the drama needed work, overall it was fun and easy.

I do recommend this one and I ended up giving it an 8 out of 10.

I ended up on deciding not to watch anymore of The Liar and His Lover. This one follows a romance between an aspiring singer with “stage fright” and a songwriter for one of the most popular boy bands.

The reason I decided not to continue watching this is because it was rubbing me the wrong way. So this is a romance between an adult and a high school student, at least as far as I’ve made it. I stopped before starting episode 8 of 16. While I do believe at one point, the MC says she’s 19, I don’t fully believe that she was telling the truth. And it just made me feel weird watching it.

Not to mention every single freaking person in this show was using the MC and when she finds out, she just tries to brush it off. I just wasn’t enjoying this show while watching it and didn’t want to push myself to continue. So I’m not.

As a review said on MyDramaList, if you don’t like it after 1 or 2 episodes, you probably won’t. So I’m certainly calling it quits.

Animal Crossing Time!!!

I didn’t take too many pictures this week because I knew I’d take a bunch for my birthday and the firework show. If you want to see the photos from my birthday, check those out in the post I made by clicking here.

Books I Want to Read

I wanted to read this during the 24 hour readathon that I did on the first, but I failed that so I didn’t even get started on this. So I’d like to finish it this week.

I’d like to finish this one early on in the week so I can get a review ready to go up on Saturday. But we’ll see. I got this book for review from Netgalley and Entangled Publishing.

Another review book from Netgalley and Entangled Publishing. I would like to read this one before the week is over so I can focus on reading my TBR books after this. I have more backlist eARCs to get to, but I’ll focus on more next week.

This is one of the audiobooks I’d like to finish this week and hopefully by this time this post goes up, I’ll have it done.

This is going to be my next audiobook listen after I finish Warcross and I don’t think it’ll take me too long to get through it.

Asian Dramas I’d Like to Watch

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay is a Korean drama I’ll be continuing to keep up on. I’m currently halfway through episode 10 and by the end of the Sunday, the show will finish off with episode 16.

Accidentally in Love is a Chinese drama that I started watching last night. It’s only 30 episodes and the episodes are a half hour each. This is something that I’m mentioning because that’s about 15 episodes of an average Korean drama, which tend to run a bit over an hour an episode. So 30 episodes at a half hour is nothing.

Going through my MyDramaList collection of “currently watching,” I realized I have a ton on that list! So I’m going to gradually make my way through it. I’m hoping to make progress on Love Around this week which is a Taiwanese drama I marked as “watching” 7 years ago!

Thankfully my memory is a strange thing. I couldn’t tell you a single thing about this drama, but I know one I get started on continuing from where I left off (supposedly), I’ll remember everything. Specifically if I actually finished it or not.

Alright! That’s going to be it for this one. I hope you all enjoyed and you stick around to see how my reading and watching went for this week.

Comment with what your plans for this week are, reading or otherwise!

Thanks so much for joining me and I’ll see you all very soon.
