Readathin Announcement | November 2020

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful week and that continues into this weekend!

Today is super exciting! It’s announcement time! And today I’m going to be announcing the challenges for the November round of Readathin!

Who, What, When, Where?! Give Me The Deets!

So, if you don’t know what Readathin is, it’s a readathon that I host along with Donna from Mom’sBookCollection with the goal to read books off your shelves. This can be physical books, eBooks, or audiobooks. If you own it, then it counts!

There are reading challenges and a photo challenge that you can do. Don’t feel like you have to do any of them or all of them. These are just guidelines. The only thing that you’re “required” to do is to read books that you own. As long as you’re doing that, you’re participating. The challenges are just to help you come up with books to choose and keep active during the readathon.

As for when, Readathin is always the entire month. This round will be in November. So it’ll start on the 1st and end on the 30th.

You can stay up to date with all things Readathin by following the Instagram and the Twitter. Instagram is @Readathin17 and Twitter is @Readathin

Also don’t forget to follow Donna and myself on Instagram and Twitter. Both are listed in the bios on each Readathin page. If you have any questions, you can comment on this post or privately message us.

Time for the Challenges!

Like I said before, don’t feel like you need to do all of these. Or any of these if you don’t want to. Just reading books you own is enough to participate! That also means that if you really want to double up on challenges, feel free to. There are no prizes or anything like that so how you decide to do the challenges is all up to you.

Click here to view the challenge photos and a document explaining each of the reading challenges.

I’m only going to go over some of the more obscure challenges here, but if you’re confused on any of them, look at the document and it will further explain each challenge.

Morning Reading – For this challenge, the goal is to read first thing in the morning. That’s before getting on your phone or computer. You can count one day of doing this, but we recommend that you do it for at least a week before counting it. If you’re feeling super ambitious, do it for the entire month! Keep a book on your nightstand with some water. First thing in the morning, drink some water and read for even 20 minutes.

Buddy Read – For this challenge, I know it may be hard sometimes to find people to buddy read with. I will be doing a book club in November and we will be reading Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco. It’s going to be focused on Discord, but I’ll also be talking about it on Instagram and Twitter so don’t hesitate to join in! There will also be threads on Instagram and Twitter where you can find other people to buddy read with.

Gifted Book – Read a book that was gifted to you. This one would have probably been fairly easy to guess, but I wanted to make sure to explain it here just in case anyone was confused on the wording of the challenge.

Read 4 Books – This one is pretty self-explanatory, but if you’re doing this challenge and want to “follow the rules,” I would say that the first 3 books that you read can count for any of these challenges and the 4th book will count for this one.

Self Care Day – This one isn’t a reading challenge. For this one, take a day to just focus on yourself and relaxing. I know that’s going to be hard for some people, but you have the entire month. Take one day to not do work and just relax. You don’t need to do a full spa day, but even just spending the day with your family, playing games and having a day where you don’t have to stress about work or getting all your books read will count. If your self care is reading, then do that! If not, then don’t.

Read While Snuggled Up – For this one, you’re going to want to snuggle up with a nice cozy blanket, a hot beverage, and read your book. You don’t need to read an entire book for this one, but if you want to, go for it!

Format Mix-Up – Take a book that you own in one format and read it in another. The best example of this is going to be taking a book you physically own and listening to it as an audiobook. I want to emphasis that the goal is to not buy another format. Use resources like your library and Scribd to get your hands on audiobooks or ebooks.

TBR Repeater – This challenge is to focus on those books that we continuously put on our TBRs and then just never get to. If you don’t make TBRs, then just choose a book that you have been saying you’re going to read, but just haven’t yet.

Book Buying Ban – This one is a challenge that will take the entire month. Don’t buy any books during the month of November! This isn’t counting preorders that you’ve ordered before November that come out in November. But don’t order or preorder any books in November, no matter what sales are going on. There are likely going to be A LOT during November (I know it’s a good time to buy gifts for people so if you’re getting a book as a gift for someone, that’s fine. But don’t get books for yourself during the month. We don’t want to add to our TBR).

Own Voices – Again, another self-explanatory challenge, but I wanted to express that this challenge is not meant to out people. If you’re going to read an own voices book featuring someone who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community, don’t out the author if they aren’t out.

And that’s going to be it for this one! I hope I’m not forgetting anything. But if I am, don’t hesitate to ask me about it.

Let me know in the comments if you’re planning to join into this Readathin!

I really hope you all can join us. It’s going to be a lot of fun this round. I’m just really excited about it.

I will definitely see you all very soon! Make sure you’re following me to keep up with my posts!

    • Definitely! And there’s a Google Doc that has all of the challenges explained if you need that. I’m so excited for this round. It’s going to be so cozy. I need to make sure I’ve got all my cozy things ready like blankets, hot drinks, and cozy clothes.

      • Everyone self-cares differently and we really need to focus on self-care right now. Especially people in the US since the entire month of November is so up in the air with the election. So we really wanted to focus on taking a day to just relax. I would highly recommend people take more than just that one day, but if we can “force” people to relax for even just one day, then I will count that as a win. I feel like I always plan to do NaNo, but then just don’t. While I love writing, I feel like I just am not able to get across what I want to half the time.
