Christmas Romance Movie Reviews #1

Good morning everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. Today I’m going to be reviewing 5 of the movies from my Christmas Movies I Want to Watch This Year Post.

I’m going to be reviewing:

  • The Princess Switch: Part 2
  • Midnight at the Magnolia
  • Operation Christmas Drop
  • A Very Country Christmas
  • Hometown Holiday

So let’s just get right into these reviews!

The Princess Switch: Part 2

This movie is a sequel, obviously, to The Princess Switch. Vanessa Hudgens stars in this romance about two women, a baker and a princess, who look so alike that they decide to switch places for a bit to get a taste of the other side of the coin, so to speak.

In this movie, without spoiling anything from the first one, they decide to switch again, but it’s more complicated with the addition of a third look-a-like, the princess’s cousin who wants the crown.

My overall thoughts about this movie were that it was good, but I like the first better. While this one was enjoyable to watch, it just seemed to be a bit too much over the top for me. And I felt like there wasn’t enough focus on the romances since it was rushed.

I just felt like it was a really quick boom-boom-boom movie that hit a bunch of different things but didn’t really delve into any of them. If that makes sense. I wasn’t looking for this to be a super in-depth movie, but I would have liked a bit more from it.

So I would say this would be a 3 out of 5 for me. I would likely watch another sequel if they come out with one because I am invested in these couples, but I don’t think I would really be ASKING for one.

Midnight at the Magnolia

This movie is about two best friends who run a radio show. With the hopes of going national, they decide to announce they are dating at a live stream for New Years. Except they aren’t actually dating so they decide to fake it!

I really enjoyed this one. It wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely enjoyable. I couldn’t really have asked for any more or less of this. I probably wouldn’t watch it again, but if someone was asking if they should, I would say go ahead.

That being said, it was pretty cliche and predictable. I mean, you’re expecting that from romances, but this was just a bit much for me in that sense.

I would also like to point out this isn’t a Christmas romance. It’s more of a leading up to New Years. It started the day after Christmas.

So this would get a 3 out of 5 from me.

Operation Christmas Drop

This movie follows a woman who is sent to an island military base to determine whether or not it is worth keeping open or not after an article was released about the base delivering presents to other islands on Christmas. The man in charge of the operation now must convince her that it’s more than just presents.

So my main issue with this one was the storyline. While I understand what they were trying to do, it’s kind of frustrating that it took the entire movie to convince this woman and her boss that sending supplies to other islands was not a “waste of resources.”

I also felt the romance was lack luster. It honestly felt forced to me and I wasn’t able to enjoy it. I would have been fine if this didn’t have the romance at all. And that’s coming from someone who generally is always looking for romance in everything.

Overall, I’d say this is a 2 for me. I really wanted to love this one but I just couldn’t bring myself to.

A Very Country Christmas

This movie follows a single mother who ends up running into a country star who left his concert without even playing to return to this town.

Overall this was another bit of a letdown. I didn’t really expect much from this one, but even then I was let down. It’s wasn’t totally atrocious, but there just wasn’t anything memorable about it. I feel there was a lot that was just skimmed over and could have ben done better.

Overall, this was a 2 for me and I wouldn’t really recommend it. And I guess there is a sequel to this and I’m half tempted to check it out… Talk me out of it…

Hometown Holiday

This movie is a romance between a lawyer trying to sign an internet sensation to become a famous singer and a florist turned actress.

This one was probably my favorite out of all of these movies, even though I still didn’t love it. It was just okay. I was fine with the romance, but the things outside of that kind of bothered me a bit. There was a cheater in the mix and a side romance I was honestly more interested in than the main one. I would have preferred this movie to follow the side romance and have the main couple be the side romance.

I would still say that his one was more worth the watch than not, though. I’m glad I watched it, even though it’s not going to be one that makes my favorites list.

I would give this one 2 out of 5.

And that’s going to be it for this one! I really hope you all enjoyed, even though I didn’t really love any of these movies. I still had a lot of fun with this post!

Someone remind me to start looking into some reviews before choosing these.

I will be doing another of these following my list so make sure you’re following so you can see if I find a Christmas romance movie that becomes a new favorite!

I’ll see you all very soon. Thank you so much for joining me! Bye!
