Anticipated Book Releases | January

Good morning everyone! I hope you’re all doing well this lovely Sunday morning! Today I’m going to be discussing the new releases that I’m anticipating in January.

This post will be focused on the books I’m anticipating. Yesterday, I talked about the movies, tv shows, and K-dramas I’m excited about. So make sure you’re checking out that post as well.

I’m sure that I’m going to miss some books. There are so many books coming out that look good! But these are some that I’m excited about.

I do hope you all enjoy this post! Make sure to comment below with any books you’re anticipating in January! Let’s do this!

This book is about Raffy, who loves to create outfits and is working toward his most ambitious build yet to stand out in a competition and get a sponsor so he can go to art school. The problem is that he has to team up with his ex-boyfriend to complete the build.

Struggling with writers block after getting into a creative writing program, romance-writer Tessa decides to take things real-life and find some inspiration from a list of steps from romance novels to read her happily ever after. Except as she continues to follow the list, the most she seems to lose herself.

Lore by Alexandra Bracken (January 5th, 2021)

One of the Good Ones by Maika Moulite and Maritza Moulite (January 5th, 2021)

After the death of her sister at a social justice rally, Happi begins to question the way that her sister is being portrayed and remembered. Kezi is being idealized as “one of the good ones” and Happi questions why that makes Kezi more worthy of being missed than anyone else. So she decides to honor Kezi in her own way and uncover truths that could change everything.

Roman and Jewel by Dana L. Davis (January 5th, 2021)

Jerzie just wanted to play the lead in the hip-hopera version of Romeo and Juliet, but someone else, Cinny, got the lead and she is the understudy. But after a video goes viral of Jerzie practicing with the other lead, Zeppelin, of the musical, the internet has a lot to say about who they think should be the lead. It doesn’t help that Jerzie is falling for Zeppelin.

When You Look Like Us by Pamela N. Harris (January 5th)

Jay knows that when Black people go missing, no one seems to care or they are blamed for going missing. Even Jay thought when his sister went missing that it was just her getting too wrapped up in her boyfriend. But Nic has been gone too long and Jay knows something is wrong, now he’ll do anything to bring her back.

Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire (January 12th, 2021)

This is the 6th book in the Wayward Children’s series and even though these books don’t necessarily go in chronological order, I recommend reading them that way. Which means that I’m not going to be reading this book just yet. I am on the 4th book of the series still, so I have a bit to go before getting to this one.

This book specifically follows someone who is sent to a world with centaurs and unicorns where she is meant to be a hero to all the equine creatures there.

Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas (January 12th, 2021)

Concrete Rose is the prequel, kind of, to The Hate U Give. It follows Maverick, Starr’s father, after he learns that he is a father. Now he’s trying to get out of the gang scene and be a good father to his son.

I am doing a book club reading both The Hate U Give and Concrete Rose in January. You can check out the blog post announcing that here. We started The Hate U Give on the 1st of January but it’s never too late to join. You don’t have to read these books during the “scheduled” times. But make sure you join the Discord to discuss them!

Every Single Lie by Rachel Vincent (January 12th, 2021)

This book is about a girl who finds a dead baby inside her ex-boyfriend’s gym bag in the girls’ locker room. Rumors start spreading that it’s her baby, but as the investigation continues, secrets are coming to light and making her question everything she knew.

This isn’t a book on my immediate TBR. It’s one that I know is going to be hard to read, but the synopsis intrigued me.

Into the Heartless Wood by Joanna Ruth Meyer (January 12th, 2021)

People have been lured to their death into these woods for centuries, but one day Owen is lured into the witch’s wood and her daughter lets him free instead of killing him. He returns to see Seren every night. But a prophecy says Seren’s quest to become human will cause war to rage.

You Have a Match by Emma Lord (January 12th, 2021)

After finding out that she has an older sister that her parents had put up for adoption, Abby is set on meeting her sister and figuring out why her parents put her up for adoption. But this investigation is going to open cans of worms that Abby might not be ready for.

The Invitation by Vi Keeland (January 18th, 2021)

Stella decides to go to a wedding that her ex-roommate was invited to because after two bounced checks and the roommate up and leaving, it’s the least they owe her. But while there, she hits it off immediately with someone. After he discovers that she isn’t who she says she is, she bolts. She runs so fast from the wedding that she forgot her phone. And guess who just so happened to have found it.

Cast in Firelight by Dana Swift (January 19th, 2020)

Arranged to be married, Adraa and Jatin both agree that their reunion will be anything but pleasant. But with tensions rising in the kingdom, both end up going under cover and end up teaming up together, not knowing who the other truly is.

Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo (January 19th, 2021)

This book tells of two girls falling in love during the Red Scare in Chinatown. Everything is stacked up against them, but they are determined to make their love bloom.

We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal (January 19th, 2021)

This is the sequel to We Hunt the Flame and because I haven’t read that yet, I didn’t look into this one. But I am really anticipating reading this book after I read the first one. I may try to pick it up in January if anyone wants to join me (You all will know if I decided to put it on my TBR before this post goes up).

Wider Than the Sky by Katherine Field Rothschild (January 19th, 2021)

After twins Sabine and Blythe lose their father to illness, they both are coping in very different manners. Suddenly their mother decides to move them to a mansion with a stranger where they learn more about their father. Not only was the man in the mansion, Charlie, their father’s lover, but their father also died from an HIV-related disease. And once again the twins are coping in very different manners.

Rachel, Out of Office by Christina Hovland (January 25th, 2021)

Rachel is a single mother trying to raise two rowdy twin boys while also running her work-from-home business. She’s finally given the chance to get a bit of a break when her former in-laws decide to take the twins for a while for a family vacation. Except her ex-husband cancels meaning that Rachel is going to have to go with the twins. So now she’s trying to balance work and spending time with the family during this “vacation.” Not to mention feelings are bubbling up for her ex-husband’s brother.

Don’t Tell a Soul by Kirsten Miller (January 26th, 2021)

I really like to go into thrillers fairly blind, so I didn’t want to know too much about this book. But I do know that it’s about a house that I guess people are disappearing into. Something like that. If you want to know more, check the Storygraph or Goodreads below.

The Knockout by Sajni Patel (January 26th, 2021)

Kareena has never been “Indian enough” and being invited to participate in the US Muay Thai Open, which could offer her up the change to join the Olympic team, is not helping that. Muay Thai is something that is seen as “too tough for girls,” but that has never stopped Kareena from loving it. Except now she’s falling for Amit, the “perfect Indian” and admitting that would be also admitting his family’s disapproval and battling her own insecurities, all while trying to focus on the fight.

Wings of Ebony by J. Elle (January 26th, 2021)

This book is about a girl who finds out that she is half-human, half-goddess and must learn to balance those two parts of herself.

And that’s going to be it for this one! I definitely won’t be getting to most of these anytime soon, but I wanted to bring some of the books I’m excited about to your attention!

I hope you found some new books or are as excited as I am about other ones! Don’t forget to let me know what books your excited about!

Thank you all so much for joining. me. I’ll see you all very soon! Bye!
