Wrap Ups and Reviews #1 | January 2022

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all doing well! I’m hanging in there. Just feeling large and exhausted, but it’s so worth it. Anyway, I ended up reading 6 books in January so let’s get right into my wrap up and reviews!

I did review all of these books on Instagram so my thoughts will be there. This will mostly just be a consistent list, brief description of what the book is about, and my rating.

So, let’s talk about them!

The Wedding Dilemma by Mariah Ankenman

Book 1 in the Mile High Firefighters series

Content/Trigger Warnings: Sexual Content

Rating: ⭑⭑⭑⭑½

Spice Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This is a semi-forbidden romance between two adult, soon-to-be step siblings.

In An Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire

Book 4 of the Wayward Children series

Content/Trigger Warnings: Grief, Child Death, Death, Misogyny, Body Horror, Confinement, Abortion, Bullying, Pregnancy

Rating: ⭑⭑⭑⭑

This book in the series follows the psychologist from Every Heart a Doorway and how she found her doorway.

The Dating Dilemma by Mariah Ankenman

I got an ARC of this from Entangled Publishing for my honest review.

Book 2 of the Mile High Firefighters series

Content/Trigger Warnings: Sexual Content, Cursing, Infidelity, Medical Content, Death of Parent

Rating: ⭑⭑⭑½

Spice Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This is a fake dating romance… after the firefighter is mistaken for being a strip-o-gram.

Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire

Book 5 in the Wayward Children series

Content/Trigger Warnings: Death, Body Horror, Blood, Violence, Gore, Panic Attacks/Disorders, Child Abuse, Self Harm, Murder

Rating: ⭑⭑⭑⭑

I don’t want to get too into what this book is about because of spoilers, but it continues from Down Among the Sticks and Bones.

Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire

Book 6 in the Wayward Children series

Content/Trigger Warnings: Bullying, Body Shaming, Kidnapping, Transphobia

Rating: ⭑⭑⭑⭑

In this book, we’re introduced to a new character who travels to a world with unicorns and other magical equines.

Where the Drowned Girls Go by Seanan McGuire

Book 7 of the Wayward Children series

Content/Trigger Warnings: Fatphobia, Bullying, Body Shaming, Suicide Attempt, Eating Disorder, Suicidal Thoughts

This book continues on with the series and introduces a new school that is very much the opposite of the home from Every Heart a Doorway.

I think that’s it for this wrap up! Overall, I really enjoyed everything that I read and I had a GREAT reading month. I will say that February is NOT off to such a great start. But that’s okay.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these and what you thought of them!

Thanks so much for hanging out and I’ll see you all again very soon!!

  1. Wow, look at you, catching up with the Wayward Children series! I have loved all of those books, though I really think the newest one is my new favorite book in the series. (In An Absent Dream is another strong contender, though.)

    1. It’s so funny when I watch people talking about this series because I really loved Across the Green Grass Fields and it seems like that’s everyone’s least favorite. Though I am for sure loving this series a ton more now than I was when I first started reading it.

      1. I liked Across the Green Grass Fields a lot, but it had a slightly different tone to it so I can see why many people liked it less. But now, since we see Regan again at the *other* school, the different tone of her solo books makes sense.

(My least favorite, for the record, is Beneath the Sugar Sky.)
