Weekly Wrap Up | Jan 6-12

Good evening everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Let’s wrap up how my week went.

So, I had big plans this week but I didn’t end up doing too much of anything. I was in bed sick most of the weekend so I did even less.

As of writing this post, I have to just respond to my discussions in both my classes. I ended up calling in sick to work tonight because I didn’t have the energy to go and I felt like throwing up instead.

I ended up finishing A Valentine Proposal by Viv Royce and did a review on my Instagram. Make sure you head over there to check that out.

But other than that I started Chestnut Man, A Darker Shade of Magic, and The Best Man Problem. I failed another round of Stacked By Season, but this round snuck up on me! I didn’t realize it was happening until I was already a day in and I was in bed sick the previous day.

Overall, I’m enjoying everything I’m reading. I’m looking forward to continuing all of them.

I don’t think I watched anything this week. Except a bit of BookTube. That being said, I want to watch more, so if you have a BookTube or watch anyone, let me know below. Tell me some of your faves both old and new!

I’ve been so stuck on this playlist of 1990s-2000s country music. I don’t know what it is but I’ve been addicted lately. I do want to switch it up a bit though. I need some more variety.

So, I haven’t done much this week. I haven’t really felt up to it. But my husband built one of my bookshelves today and I’m hoping to convince him to build the second and mount them so I can start shelving things.

Speaking of, I’ll be doing an unboxing probably on Tuesday of my BookOutlet order from the Boxing Day sale so make sure you keep an eye out for that one. Tomorrow is going to be a bit blogging day for me so I can get ahead instead of skipping posts like I have the past two weekends.

But that’s really it that I’ve done this week. I hope to get more done next week, but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see what I have planned. Thank so much for joining me and I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Stay bright and drink your water.

Someone should have warned me about falling in love with my best friend.

Carolina
Little did I know when Rex came to my locker attempting to bribe me, that he’d turn into my everything.
We’d become best friends. I’d steal his heart. He’d steal mine.
Nothing has changed in the years of our friendship.
Not our connection, not our feelings, or that we still hold each other’s hearts.
But his heart isn’t the only thing I’ve kept.
The secret I’m hiding could shatter the only man I’ve ever loved.

Rex
I’ve loved Carolina since the day she called my bluff.
Our friendship always came first.
She believed in me when no one else did.
I tucked away my feelings because I couldn’t survive a life without her.
We crossed the line once, and I swore it’d never happen again.
As time passes, the harder it becomes to live up to that promise.
Until finally, there’s no holding back.

Excerpt

“Grab your planner, sweetheart. Pencil me in to pick you up three Saturdays from now. Seven o’clock.”
“Okay,” she drags out. “What’s up with the preplanning?”
“Prom night. Let me know the color of your dress, so we can do all that matchy-matchy bullshit.”
“Excuse me?” She scowls in my direction. “You can’t just tell me I’m going to prom with you.” She throws her arms up, her voice turning all dramatic, like the boring romance movies she forces me to watch. “You didn’t even ask!”
“No need for me to ask. You’re going to prom with me.”
“What if I don’t want to go with you? You didn’t even give me a promposal!”
“Tough shit. You won’t find a better date. Not to mention, I’m the only guy in this school who won’t try to weasel his inexperienced dick into your virginal panties.” He raises his brows. “If you want a promposal, I’ll get one of those banners that fly in the sky or some shit.”
“You’re so romantic.” She crosses her arms, pouting her glossy pink lips. “Have you ever thought that I don’t want my panties to stay virginal? Maybe I want to change that on prom night.”
“Maybe you’ve lost your goddamn mind.” I clear my throat, and my voice grows deeper. “You’re my date. Your panties will remain untouched.” I jerk my thumb toward her planner in the backseat. “Put it in there, circle it with a red marker, and don’t forget.”
She huffs. “What about Leanne, the girl you’ve already asked to prom?”
Shit. I fucking forgot about Leanne. “She can either be your sister-date or kick rocks.”
“I am not having a sister-date,” she shrieks.
“Looks like she’ll be kicking rocks then. I’ll bribe her to go with someone else.”
Murphy is available.
“I can’t believe I speak to you.”
“You. Me. Prom.” I lean over and kiss her cheek before turning on the car. “My mom is making tacos tonight. You coming over for dinner?”
“Ugh, fine, but I’m only coming for her and the tacos.”

New Years Book Tag | Tag Tuesday 2020 Round 1

Good morning everyone! It’s time for a tag. I started writing the emotional post but I just decided to scrap it for now. I couldn’t get my thoughts straight so let’s just do a tag!

Its the first Tuesday of the year so let’s start up a new Tag Tuesday round! So round one, let’s talk 2020 goals.

This tag was created by Bookables back in 2017 for 2018. So let’s just get into it!

How many books are you planning to read in 2020?

I would love to read 100 books not counting graphic novels or manga. I’m currently at one.

Name 5 books that you didn’t get to this year but want to make a priority in 2020

So, off the top of my head: Nevernight by Jay Kristoff, Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller, Renegades by Marissa Meyer, Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy, and Perfectly Messy by Lizzy Charles.

What genre do you want to read more of?

So, I have two and one of them might be surprising. But first, make sure you all stick around and follow my blog because I am making a priority this year reading some genres and tropes I may not have tried before to see if it’s something I like.

The first one is poetry collections and books told in prose. And another is sci-fi. Yup. Your girl who doesn’t like sci-fi is going to try to read more.

Name 3 non book related goals for 2020

I want to start doing yoga more, graduate and at least start an internship, and be more positive.

What’s a book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?

American Psycho and The Great Gatsby. Both of these books have been on my shelves the longest unread. I need to get to finishing American Psycho and reading The Great Gatsby.

One word that your hoping 2020 will be

Grand. And I don’t mean extravagant. I just want positivity and happiness in my 2020. Cutting out the negativity and building new relationships that are more positive. Judging by how 2020 has been going so far, I don’t know how well this will work.

Donna from MomsBookCollection!

Thank you so much for joining me and I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday. It’s Monday for me and I’m about to go to work in a couple hours. So I’m going to take an hour nap really quick.

Comment below with what genres you would like to read more of in 2020.

I’ll see you all in the next one! Bye!!!

Jan 6-12 Weekly Goals and TBR

Good morning everyone. I’m so sorry I missed Shout-out Saturday this past time. I meant to do the post but Friday night rolled around, my boy was being crazy, and I was just tired.

I didn’t wrap up last week either. I didn’t do much. My brother moved out and we spent the weekend starting to move stuff into the bedroom to set up my library and my son’s playroom. It’s a work in progress and has been keeping us busy.

You may have noticed I posted this an hour earlier than normal. I’m hoping by giving myself less time to write the posts (I’m working until 7) I’ll get them written earlier.

I did finish reading Queen of Nothing though! Go to my Instagram to see my review for it! I’m hoping to finish The Valentine Proposal today.

Since I just mentioned the first book I plan on finishing this week, let’s get into my TBR first.

Books I Want To Read This Week

So, after The Valentine Proposal, I would like to get to Fix Her Up.

This is going for one of the challenges for NewYearsathon so in a perfect world, I’d finish this book tomorrow on the 7th. I don’t know if that will happen, but it’s good to dream.

For my audiobook listen, I would really like to start A Darker Shade of Magic. I may see if my husband wants to listen to it with me, though. So I wouldn’t be finishing it this week if that’s the case.

After finishing The Valentine Proposal, I’ll need a new eBook to read. For that, I’ll be working on the next arc that I have that comes out in January and that is The Best Man Problem.

After finishing Fix Her Up, I’ll be starting The Chestnut Man.

I will wait until I’m done with Fix Her Up before starting The Best Man Problem because despite the fact I do read multiple books at a time, I’m not a monster. I can’t read two books of the same genre, especially romances.

But those are the books I have planned for the week.

School

The other thing I’m going to be focusing on and the main focus of mine is school. Starting today, my next term has started. If you didn’t know, I’m about to graduate with my bachelors in creative writing and English. Shocking, I know.

But this term I’m taking Diversity and Into to Critical Thinking. So they are both classes I’m interested in and need to focus on. After this term, I’ll have one more of two classes. I have 16 weeks left of school before I graduate. Wow.

So this week is mostly intro stuff, learning what the final is going to be, introducing myself, and reading the first chapter of the book and articles to introduce me to the classes.

This week is going to be easy stuff, but I already have some ideas for discussing in my finals, but I haven’t looked into what they are actually supposed to be about so who knows how that will go.

Life Stuff

Since I plan on doing a lot of reading and school is starting back up, I don’t really have much planned for my life stuff. I want to finish moving my son’s toys into the playroom and *hopefully* be able to set up some of the shelves for my library. I can hopefully fit 6 of the 9 cube organizers and I have two in the living room.

We’re going to find out if it would be cheaper to get the 6 for the bedroom or get a tv stand and take the two from the living room and only have to buy 4 more. We’ll see.

I want at least 4 set up before I start using them for photos and stuff, though.

But besides that, I want to start yoga again. I have the room now and I would really like to start getting back into it. And with me being back on my normal work schedule, I will be able to take the time to.

So, that’s it for this one! That’s my goal list for the week.

Let me know in the comments any plans that you have for this week. What goals are you hoping to work on? How many books do you want to read? What books? Let’s chat in the comments.

Thanks for joining me! I’ll see you all in the next post! I’m debating between a tag post or a little bit of a motivational one. I’m leaning toward the motivational one. We’ll see how I feel when I get home and get ready to write it.

Bye!

2019 Reading Goals Wrap Up

Good evening everyone! I hope you all have had a wonderful beginning to the new year. Well, since we’re here, let’s shame me! Aka let’s talk about my 2019 Reading Goals, how I did, and what I learned.

Now, disclaimer, I am not ashamed of how I did last year with my reading. I had a lot of crap going on in my life and I didn’t get to read as much as I would have liked. I’m okay with that. But I did learn from these goals and that’s what I’d like to focus on.

I’m not going to go in depth with every challenge and how I did in detail. It’s going to be just if I completed it or not, why not if I didn’t, and, again, what I learned.

Read 10 Series

This is a challenge I didn’t complete. I chose 10 specific series and wanted to read them by the end of the year. But I don’t count this as a fail. I either DNFed the series or finished it. Or made decent progress in it. Either way, it put my attention on the series and I was “forced” to make a choice about reading it.

I ended up DNFing Throne of Glass and deciding I didn’t care about The Remnant Chronicles. I started The Selection, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and The Infernal Devices.

I prioritized and finished Percy Jackson and Saga. I made progress. That’s what mattered to me.

Wrapped Books

This one I did really well in during 2018, but failed in 2019. I decided that wrapping the books was a waste of paper and choosing one every month wasn’t making me want to read them.

I changed it up this year to give me more time for each selection and reuse old book boxes instead of new wrapping paper.

Read 50 TBR Books

For this, I wanted to focus on reading books I already owned. This was going great until the last half of the year. I was depressed and slumpy so I wasn’t reading as much. My focus was on ARCs and that’s it. So I didn’t get the chance to read a lot of books from my own TBR.

But I’m doing this challenge again and hope that this year will go better.

Read All ARCs

I didn’t do this one either. I wanted to focus on backlist arcs, but I just didn’t end up doing that. I kept up with ones I got, but I didn’t read, like, any backlist. I’m hoping to get to them this year. Either reading them or DNFing them. Either way, my NetGalley is at 82% currently, so I’m not counting this as a fail.

A to Z Challenge

So, I’m sure if I go through all my reads, I would have completed this one. Either way, I do this one for fun, not as a strict goal.

Finish All Currently Reading

Yup, nope. That didn’t happen. But I am going to try to prioritize this in 2020. I want to either finish or DNF the books.

Read 150 Books, 100 Novels

I got really close, but my depression and slump ruined that one. Oops. I cut it back to 100 on GoodReads, but I would like to subconsciously try to hit 150 again. The 150 is counting manga and such. The 100 is specifically novels.

And that’s it! Those were all my goals for 2019. As you can tell, I didn’t do great. But I wouldn’t count 2019 as a flop. I learned, I grew, etc etc. I’m excited for what 2020 has in store for my reading.

Check out my last post to see what books I am going to start out the year with!

Thanks for joining me and I’ll see you all in my next post for a First Lines Friday! Enjoy the rest of your evening!

See you all soon! Bye!

January and NewYearsathon TBR | 2020

Good morning everyone and happy new year! I hope that this year has been good to you so far. Today we’re going to kick off 2020 with my TBR. These are all the books I plan on reading in January, but I know I won’t get to all of them so I’ll have to push some to February.

So, first let’s get into the arcs I have to read because those are the most important for me to get to.

Advance Review Copies

This one takes place in the same town as A Family By Christmas (which I read and reviewed when that came out), but it follows another character. We met Cleo in book 1 and now we follow her romance with the guy who is supposed to be deciding whether the bookshop she works at is worth the risk of buying.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first book, but that wasn’t because of the writing or the romance necessarily. One of the characters was a widow and those stories are ones that never really appeal to me. So, I’m interested in giving Viv Royce another shot and hopefully enjoying this story a lot more!

Another sequel to another book I read and reviewed at release. I’m really excited for this one because I really enjoyed the first book, The Best Friend Problem. In that book, the main character lives with 2 roommates and this book follows one of them. Except it takes place while they are planning the first book’s character’s wedding! After hooking up with someone in a wedding party and almost ruining a wedding before, Lilly vowed that she wouldn’t let it happen again. So she thinks nothing of a one night stand she has with someone she met in a hotel. Until that someone ends up being the best man at her best friend’s wedding.

I’m not going to get into what each of these is about, but I have to read them all before the release of the 6th book, Just Friends. Keep an eye out January 8th for the cover reveal post of Just Friends!

Romanceopoly

So, I rolled a 5 and a 1 so. counting 6 places on the Romanceopoly board lands me on Flirts Corner which is to read a contemporary romance with a nerdy hero or heroine. I’m going to be counting this book because the heroine works at a bookstore, so I’m assuming she’s nerdy. If I don’t feel she is “nerdy” enough, then I’m sure one of the many romances I plan on reading this month have a nerdy hero/heroine.

Boxed Up Books

So, if you saw my reading goals for 2020, you know that I decided to fill up a few book boxes with books that I needed to get to. Every other month, I’ll unbox one of the boxes and then use the two months to read those books.

For January and February, these are the books I unboxed!

I’m excited for all of these, but since I’m doing three readathons in January, I don’t know how soon I’ll be able to get to these.

So to finish off this TBR, let’s talk about the books I plan to read for NewYearsathon.

NewYearsathon

These are the books I plan on reading. Check out my Instagram post by clicking here to see what challenges they are going for.

So thatt’s it for this one! I’m sorry it’s going up so late. I’ll have another post going up today (hopefully) for you all! So look forward to it.

See you all soon! Bye!

Last Reads of the Year | The One Where I Start Poetry Collections

Good morning everyone! Time to wrap up December’s reading!

As of writing this, I have read 8 books in December! You’d think with that reading I will have hit my GoodReads goal. Maybe I did. Maybe I didn’t. Wait for later this week to find out!

But of those 8 books, my lowest rating was 3 stars so tthat’s good! I gave really high ratings and in 2020 my wrap ups will be more organized and have more stats. So look forward to that!

Let’s just get into the books I’ve read. And sorry if there are random periods everywhere, my keyboard is messed up again. These aren’t in any particular order.

Merry Me, Mistletoe Magic, and Christmas Wish by Amanda Siegrist

I got all of these books from Give Me Books Promotions as a part of a promotion for the release of Snowed in Love, the fourth book in this series. They can be read as standalones, but I highly recommend reading them in order if you care about the other relationships because they are huge parts of the stories following.

I rated these books 5, 4, and then 3 stars in that order. I am gradually losing interest for the relationships because of the characters they are following. The first book I was really into. The second book, again, really into. The third book introduced a new female character that kinda drove me insane and the fourth book is about a character that I don’t care about and his romance with a character I almost cared about.

These are all christmas romances and I’m hoping to finish the year with 9 books in December by finishing. Snowed in Love before midnight. Then cracking right into Queen of Nothing to kick of NewYearsathon (please join, announcement here)

The She Book by Tanya Markul

I gave this poetry collection 4 stars. It was very focused on women and not letting anything bring the woman down and loving herself despite everything. I loved it, but it also got really repetitive.

I read this as a part of my “getting to know my reading preferences” aka “A Court of Tropes and Genres” aka I can’t think of a better name so that may stick aka let me know your thoughts on the name. All the poetry collections I read this month are a part of that.

The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace

Lols. 4 books (hopefully 5) written by Amandas. I didn’t even do it on purpose! But I gave this 5 stars. I loved it. It was dark, gritty, and motivating all in one. I fell in love with Amanda Lovelace’s poetry in this and I can’t wait to read more.

The Dark Between Stars by Atticus

Now, I’ve read. Atticus before so I knew I’d love this one and I did! I gave it 5 stars. It follows a relationship and I just adored it. It was bare and beautiful. I’m becoming a huge fan of poetry.

The Toll by Neal Shusterman

4 stars. Solid finale to the Arc of Scythe series and Neal Shusterman did it again. He made me question all of my morals and my life. It was wonderful. I look forward to reading more Neal Shusterman aftter this.

Can’t get into what this book is about, but the series follows a world where we’ve evolved and created an AI that made it so humans can’t die and nothing bad happens to them, no sickness, nothing. So humans can live forever. To counter this, scythes were created. The AI can’t interfere witht the Scythedom and the Scythedom can’t ask for help from the AI. So we follow two people who are chosen to apprentice as scythes.

PS I Still Love You by Jenny Han

Another sequel. I wanted something quick and easy to listen to so this won out. I enjoyed it enough, but it wasn’t great. I don’t see the love for Peter. Now John Ambrose, on the other hand, is a cinnamon bun. So there’s that. 3 stars, don’t support the direction it’s taking but here we go onto book three.

General summary of book one with no spoilers, main character writes letters to get over her crushes and keeps them in a hat box, letters are mysteriously sent out to the boys, drama ensues.

That’s it! Those are the books I’ve read this month. I’m hoping to finish Christmas Wish before the end of the day (that gives me about 5 hours so. 100% doable).

Comment down below with what book you ended the year off with!

I’ll see you all tomorrow with my January TBR (which I’m going to write once I finish this so I can actually get it up on time). It’s also going to include my TBR for NewYearsathon so make sure you check it out.

Lastly, don’t forget that SelfLoveathon is happening in January. Read all the books that you feel you can connect to or will help you better understand yourself. ❤

See you all tomorrow! Bye!!!

Last Book Haul of 2019 (Aka I Went Overboard Again)

Hello everyone! I hope you all have had a wonderful year and I’m so sad it’s coming to an end already. It seems like every year is going by quicker and quicker. But that just means a new start and new goals!

But until then, let’s discuss the last books I got in December. This will include my Owlcrate, Book of the Month, Christmas gifts, and my Black Friday Book Outlet order. Now, I don’t have photos of all of these books so some are going to just be listed and I’m sorry for that! I didn’t really prep ahead of time.

Let start with OwlCrate. I did post my unboxing and you can view it here. But the book that came with the Owlcrate was…

Now, I know nothing about this book but I know that a lot of people really like this author so I’m interested in trying them out.

I ended up canceling my BotM after this month, so this was my last choice!

I chose One Day in December by Josie Silver. I don’t know anything about this one either. But I was planning on canceling and I’ve seen this one around so I just chose this.

Time for some Christmas gifts!

I got all of these gifts from amazing some friends I have! I forgot to iclude For Everyone by Jason. Reynolds because it was in my bag when I took this picture. Make sure to follow everyone I linked because they deserve the world and this is the most I can provide ❤

Christina from SushiRainbow

Melissa from TheWrittenAdventure

Liz from FrenchToast.n.Books

Make sure to follow them. They are so wonderful. And shoot them a message, you won’t regret it!

Now, last but not least is my BookOutlet Order. I have so many books here that I’m just going to list them if I don’t have a photo. It was the Black Friday order and it came early in December. Also, this isn’t all of them. Some were for my son and if you want to see what I got him, comment below and let me know and he can have his own haul!

  • Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo
  • Tales of Mystery and Madness by Edgar Allan Poe
  • Archenemies (Renegades Book 2) by Marissa Meyer
  • Sadie by Courtney Summers (I already own this book and I forgot. Thankfully I’m working on making a list of all the books I own so this. won’t happen again since I did it during the Boxing Day sale too.)
  • I Find You in the Darkness by Alfa Holden
  • Love Story by Karen Kingsbury
  • American Panda by Gloria Chao
  • The White Christmas Inn by Colleen Wright
  • My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren
  • Jumbo Book of Large-Print Crosswords (I’ve tried a few of these and either they’re dumb or I am. I don’t know.)
  • The She Book by Tanya Markul
  • Watch Us Rise by Renee Watson and Ellen Hagan
  • The Ancient Magus Bride Vol 2
  • The Ancient Magus Bride Vol 3
  • The Ancient Magus Bride Vol 5
  • The Ancient Magus Bride Vol 6 (I need vol 4 still)
  • Beasts of Abigaile Vol 3
  • Beasts of Abigaile Vol 4
  • Yokai Rental Shop Vol 2
  • Yokai Rental Shop Vol 3
  • Yokai Rental Shop Vol 4
  • Wonderland Vol 1
  • If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord Vol 2
  • If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord Vol 3
  • Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter Vol 2
  • Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter Vol 3
  • The Dark Between Stars by Atticus

So, as you can probably tell, I got A LOT of manga. You know what that means, right?! Maybe we’ll do a Mangathon soon!

But that’s it for this one. I hope you all enjoyed. Next time I’ll try to give more synopsises and photos. This time there were just too many books and I already put a bunch of the BookOutlet ones in boxes for one of my 2020 Reading Goals.

Anyway, thanks for joining me and I’ll see you all soon with my wrap up that I will hopefully get up soon!

Weekly TBR and Goals | Dec 30, 2019-Jan 5th, 2020

Oh hey! It’s Monday! That means it’s time to set some goals. Great. Let’s start setting. But first, welcome.

I’m sorry that I didn’t get a chance to get my December Book Haul up for you all. My phone airdropping to my iPad just wasn’t working and I haven’t had the motivation to switch to my computer.

So I’ll work on that tomorrow and until then, I’m sorry. Goal is to have both of those up tomorrow. I have a post planned for each and every day this week. Today’s is this. Tomorrow is wrap up and hauls for December.

So tomorrow is going to be a busy day for me when it comes to blogging.

But another main goal of the week is reading. I would like to finish Snowed in Love before tomorrow is over (I just finished PS I Still Love You but that was on the list too). I also would like to finish reading QoN and listen to A Darker Shade of Magic entirely, same with The Valentine Proposal.

Lastly for reading, I want to start Chestnut Man. I doubt I’ll get to all of the books mentioned, but some are higher priorities than others.

Any other tasks that I have for the week are cleaning and home related. Oh, besides wanting to update my planners every day and wanting to participate in two Instagram photo challenges.

But other than that I mainly just want to get my home in order. My brother is moving out and since we already get up my son’s bed in our room and it won’t fit thought outs bedroom doors, the spare room will be the playroom for both my husband and my son.

So that means a lot of rearranging and reorganizing. But since that probably won’t be don’t until next week, I want to finalize placement plans.

I want to start working on the kitchen declutter and start on school stuff since that starts tben 6th.

Anyway, it’s currently 4:30pm and I’ve been up for almost 34 hours. Sox I’m passing out. Especially since I had one cup of coffee yesterday when I woke up.

Don’t forget that NewYearsathon starts on the first! I definitely look forward to doing this readathon with you all.

Let me know in the comments what goals you have for this week.

See you all in the next one! Bye!
